Aug. 30
Money matters
8:35 a.m. — 3300 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD
). Larceny. A woman reported that someone entered her Mercedes and her husband’s Cadillac and stole approximately $3.50 worth of coins from the Cadillac. Both cars were unlocked.

Chauffeur service
1:45 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Bay Isles Road
. Public Service. A man called to report a woman driving recklessly. Police pulled the woman over, and she explained she had just had a procedure performed at the doctor’s office and was driving a rental car with which she was unfamiliar. Police gave the woman a ride home.

Take cover
2:21 p.m. — 2200 block of GMD
. Larceny. A man called police to report a $150 car cover was stolen from his neighbor’s car, which he was cleaning and watching over the summer.

Backpack goes missing
3:50 p.m. — 2000 block of GMD
. Lost Property. A woman reported that a gray nylon backpack containing a DVD player, computer games, two leather CD cases and three school books was missing from her car.

Homework hurry
9:48 p.m. — 1000 block of GMD
. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a woman and issued her citations for driving 65 miles per hour on Gulf of Mexico Drive and twice passing vehicles in no-passing zones. The woman told police she was in a rush to get home and do her homework.

Seashell search
10:03 p.m. — 4500 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A couple was told not to shine flashlights on the beach while looking for seashells because the light was potentially devastating to sea turtles, which easily become disoriented during nesting season.

Aug. 31
Missing tools
8:49 a.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
. Larceny. A man told police that someone stole $298 worth of hand tools from his tool belt, which was usually kept locked in the elevator room of his condominium’s complex.

Chain reaction
2:02 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD
. Vandalism. A security guard reported that someone cut the $100 chain used to lock up the entrance of the shuttered Colony Beach & Tennis Resort.

Sept. 1
Sunken sailboat
11:11 p.m. — 10 block of Linley Street
. Boat. Police observed the mast of a submerged sailboat sticking out of the water near the town boat ramp in the Longbeach Village neighborhood. Police placed a traffic cone on top of it.

Sept. 2
Puncture wound
7:24 a.m. — 6900 block of Longboat Drive South
. Vandalism. A man reported that someone used a small object to puncture three of his truck’s tires and caused $300 worth of damage.

Firing practices
11:41 a.m. — 1700 block of GMD
. Trespassing. Police stood by as a condominium maintenance worker was fired and issued him a trespass warning.

Construction crew reprimanded
12:57 p.m. — 600 block of Lyons Lane
. Parking Violation. After receiving a complaint from a man about a neighbor’s nearby construction site, police asked the contractor to park more of his crew’s cars on site and not to allow his crew to take breaks near the neighbor’s yard, which contains a swing rope for his children.

Parking violation

1:44 p.m. — 600 block of Cedar Court
. Suspicious Vehicle. A man was asked to park his car in front of his home and not in a private parking lot used for a nearby bistro.

Convenience sake
4:01 p.m. — 5600 block of GMD
. Trespassing. A man was issued a trespass warning for drinking several beers outside a convenience store.

Sticks and stones
4:15 p.m. — 4900 block of GMD
. Vandalism. A man reported that someone broke his $100 lanai window by throwing a small rock at it.

No beer allowed
5:10 p.m. — 4500 block of GMD
. Code Enforcement. A man was advised he couldn’t drink beer on the beach.

Hidden handbag
8:10 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that a bag containing her car keys and cell phone were possibly stolen from her beach towel while she jogged on the beach. After the woman was driven home to retrieve her spare key, a man presented her with the bag, which he said had been buried in the sand. He stumbled over it while walking on the beach.

Sept. 3
Friendly assistance
11:10 p.m. — Intersection of Broadway and Bayside Drive
. Rescue. Police saw an intoxicated man lying on the ground next to his bicycle and tried to assist him. The man refused medical attention and couldn’t remember where he lived. His wallet was used to locate an acquaintance, who arrived to take him home.

Sept. 4

Family feud

10:45 p.m. — 500 block of Sutton Place
. Domestic Violence. Two sisters were arrested for domestic battery after they began throwing punches at each other and breaking objects in a condominium. One of the sisters accused the other one of texting too much on her cell phone.

Sept. 5
Bunch of hot air
11:13 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD
. Suspicious Person. A man with a lengthy criminal background attempted to access the town’s south Fire Rescue station to use an air pump for his bicycle tire. He was instructed to go to a nearby gas station to pay for the air, even though his tire appeared to be inflated.

Crisis averted
11:52 a.m. — 5300 block of GMD
. Rescue. A man almost drowned while swimming in the Gulf behind a beach resort. The Longboat Fire Rescue crew on scene believed he might have had a medical emergency in the water, which made it difficult for him to get to shore.

Couple quarrel
5:28 p.m. — 3500 block of Bayou Sound
. Domestic Violence. A man called police and asked them to escort his girlfriend out of his home. The man, who had a bloody nose, would not tell police how he had gotten injured. The girlfriend told police he might have gotten the bloody nose by snapping the heel off one of her most expensive pairs of shoes and flailing.

Sept. 6
Beach bound

12:27 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. Police observed a boat anchored off the beach behind the shuttered Colony Beach & Tennis Resort and observed a family sitting under one of the resort’s tiki huts. No action was taken.

No beer allowed
2:35 p.m. — Beer Can Island
. Code Enforcement. A man was warned he couldn’t drink beer on Beer Can Island.

Sept. 7
Man fends off attackers
1:02 a.m. — 2000 block of GMD
. Battery. A man told police that while he was relaxing in a beach chair near the Gulf, two men approached him, pulled him out of his chair and began punching him. The man told police he began to fight back and knocked one man down and punched the other man, which caused his attackers to flee. The man couldn’t give a description of the subjects because it was too dark out.
