Sept. 7
Not your beach

10:10 a.m. — 5300 block of GMD.
Disturbance. The maintenance man from the condominium complex next door harassed guests of a resort for sunbathing on what he perceived as condominium property.

Plate stolen
11:17 p.m. — 5100 block of GMD
. Vehicle Larceny. A man reported that someone stole the license plate off his vehicle while it was parked in front of his uncle’s house overnight. A classmate later informed the man he noticed the tag missing on his Sarasota college campus a day earlier.

Sept. 8
Unwelcome visitors
3:25 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD
. Burglary. Two men and a woman were charged with burglary to a home after a caretaker for the home entered the property to check on the home. Police found a damaged screen door, potato chips and a small bag with traces of marijuana in it inside the home.

Just flat wrong
5:51 p.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane.
Larceny. A man reported that someone attempted to take two Jet Skis and a flat-screen television from his neighbor’s patio.

Sept. 9
Porch party
6:55 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar Street.
Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that someone had been using her neighbor’s porch while they were out of town.

Let there be light
2:42 p.m. — 5600 block of GMD.
Larceny. A man reported that solar lights attached to his condominium steps were stolen.

Cause for alarm
9:50 p.m. — 500 block of General Harris Street. Welfare Check. Police asked a man on four separate occasions to either sit upright or go home, because he was lying on the ground listening to a football game. The department kept getting calls about his welfare from motorists.

Sept. 11
Lurker location
2:21 a.m. — 6900 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A man told police he thought he saw someone lurking outside when he got up to get a drink of water. No one could be found.

Mulch help
7:58 a.m. — 500 block of Putter Lane
. Fire. A small electrical fire caused by some landscape lighting was put out in some mulch and the lights were disconnected.

Bigger than a bread box
11:44 p.m. — 700 block of Spanish Drive South. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police she saw something bigger than a raccoon move in the bushes when she walked onto her lanai. Police believe it was a loose dog that had been reported in the area.


Sept. 12
Persistent neighbor
1:30 a.m. — 700 block of Broadway.
Suspicious Person. A man called police after the next-door neighbor rang his doorbell and kept insisting he come inside, even though he explained he was the new tenant of the home and his friend wasn’t there. The man apologized for his actions and denied throwing pebbles at the windows.

Window breaks
3:35 p.m. — 600 block of Emerald Harbor Drive. Property Damage. A woman reported something from outside struck her sliding glass window, causing it to break.

No pool party
6:19 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD.
Trespassing. A woman reported that several people were using her condominium’s pool and were not residents or visitors of the property. When police approached the subjects, a woman claimed her mother owned a timeshare and they had permission to use the pool. The woman agreed to leave, because her mother couldn’t be reached. She agreed to bring the proper documentation with her the next time she came.

Sept. 13
Homeless camp
6:44 a.m. — Intersection of Broadway and Palm Drive
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported a suspicious looking man standing in the bushes near Palm Drive. Police found an old homeless camp in the bushes that appeared to be abandoned.

Key bushmen
9:57 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road.
Suspicious Person. A town employee called to report a suspicious person who was walking around the Town Hall parking lot and vanished in some bushes near the parking lot. The next day, an abandoned home near Town Hall was found to be unlocked and was secured. The state of the home was referred to the code-enforcement department.

Sept. 14
Golf cart dispute
11:07 a.m. — 3000 block of Harbourside Drive.
Civil Disturbance. A man reported that a golfer driving a golf cart was illegally driving on a walking path near the Longboat Key Club Moorings Marina. Police explained to the man, who has made other claims in the past, that the law allows the carts on the path because it’s private property. He was asked to stop harassing golfers.

Annoying caller
2:36 p.m. — 700 block of El Centro. Phone Call. A woman called to complain that someone kept repeatedly calling her, because she was sure her daughter had the exact cell-phone number.

Decal stolen
3:23 p.m. — 3500 block of Fair Oaks Lane
. Vehicle Larceny. A woman reported that someone stole the decal from her Jaguar’s license plate.

Sept. 15
More patrol promised
1:30 a.m. — 6400 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police she heard someone at the rear door of her home and thought they were trying to open it. Police couldn’t find anyone but promised to provide extra patrol near her home.
