Cops' Corner 07.23.09

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

BRADEN CROSSINGS
 July 7
10:30 a.m. — 5500 block of 47th Court East. Assault. The complainant was in the subdivision delivering mail when a dog ran out in front of her mail truck. The complainant accidentally ran over the dog and killed it. The dog’s owner came out of his residence and confronted her. An argument ensued, and the suspect and his wife began threatening the complainant. The suspect’s wife began arguing with the complainant’s 17-year-old daughter and threatened to go inside and retrieve a knife.

GREENBROOK
 July 10 
6 p.m. — 13500 block of Glossy Ibis Place. Vehicle burglary. Unknown person(s) smashed the rear passenger side window and entered the vehicle. Once inside, the suspect(s) removed the radio. The suspect(s) also stole the victim’s iPod and FM transmitter.

SARASOTA
 July 6
10:19 p.m. — 8200 block of Simpson Falls Court. Loitering and prowling. The male suspect was arrested for loitering and prowling during a dispatched call for service. The offender confessed to law enforcement that he was being tracked and secretly tried to hide and not surrender.

July 7
8:10 p.m. — 2875 University Parkway (Publix). Battery. The two subjects got into an argument over food. The argument turned physical when the male suspect grabbed the victim by the chin and neck. The suspect was arrested.

July 9
4:30 p.m. — 5251 University Parkway (Fresh Market). Burglary. Prior to entering the store to do some shopping, the complainant locked her 2001 Lexus GS 430 that was parked in the parking lot. The suspect later returned to find all four of the windows partially down, the sunroof open and the trunk popped open. There was nothing reported missing from the vehicle.
9:50 p.m. — 3235 University Parkway (Burger King). Uttering forged bills. A black male, a black female and three small children drove up to the drive-thru and attempted to pay for food with a counterfeit $10 bill. The manager informed the male suspect that the bill was counterfeit and asked for the money back. The suspects left in a white four-door sedan in an unknown direction. The manager kept the $10 bill and turned it over to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

TARA
 Reported July 8
9 a.m. — 6602 Drewry’s Bluff (Tara Golf Course). Grand theft. Unknown person(s) took spools of wire that Total Golf Construction Inc. had set on the golf course where they were working. The person(s) then fled in an unknown direction by unknown means.

OTHER
 Reported July 9
2:55 p.m. — 8700 block of State Road 70 East. Information. Unknown person(s) took three water meters and three Y connectors off of the fire hydrants.

July 10
8 p.m. — 8604 State Road 70 E. (Hess). Petit theft. The complainant left his wallet at the gas station. An employee found the wallet and set it aside. Another employee stole the wallet, but it was later returned to the victim. The victim did not wish to press charges, but the suspect did receive a trespass warning.
11:25 p.m. — 5299 33rd St. E. (McDonalds). Criminal mischief. Unknown suspect(s) shot a BB gun at the victim’s car while her daughter, who drove the car, was inside the restaurant. The BB gun shattered the front passenger side window and chipped the paint in three spots, causing about $800 in damage. The victim stated she doesn’t know of anyone who is mad at her and did not have any road rage incidents on the way there. The manager reviewed the surveillance videos and advised that there is no camera pointing where the vehicle was parked. There were no other vehicles damaged in the parking lot.

July 19
4:30 p.m. — 2911 53rd Ave. E. (Wal-Mart). Retail theft/dog bite. Loss prevention observed James Slaughter conceal a video game in his pocket. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was called for assistance. Once Slaughter exited the store, deputies confronted him. When he ran, deputies released the K-9, which bit Slaughter on his right leg and buttocks.
