The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

CYPRESS STRAND
April 8
 6 p.m.
— 6400 block of Bay Cedar Lane. Vehicle burglary. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle while it was parked in her driveway and stole her portable GPS. The GPS was valued at about $179.

GATES CREEK
Reported April 9
 4:30 p.m
. — 200 block of Gates Creek Road. Petit theft. The victim stated he believes the suspect stole property from his yard. The victim did not see the theft occur. He said he believes the suspect may have sold the stolen property at a scrap yard. The victim was given a case number and a victim’s rights brochure.

OTHER
April 9
 12:05 p.m.
— 5129 53rd Ave. E. (Hobby Marketplace). Aggravated assault. The male subject has been a customer of the business and became irate when he couldn’t get a refund. The subject became verbally abusive toward the reporting party as well as other employees in the store who kept telling him to leave. The male subject, who was in the company of another male who said nothing, went to the green SUV he had arrived in and took out what appeared to be a machine gun. The victim and witness had walked outside to make sure he left. As the subject held the gun and pointed it toward them, the victim believed it to be an actual firearm and backed away, believing he was about to be shot. The male then began to fire the weapon, which was actually an air soft rifle, at the store sign. He then fled the scene in the listed vehicle.

 8:20 p.m
. — 11161 S.R. 70 E. (Verizon Wireless). Identity theft. The victim recently purchased a cell phone and a plan from Verizon Wireless. When he went to pick up the phone a few days later, he discovered a separate phone line and contract were taken out in his name. The signatures on the contract were not his. While in the presence of the responding deputy, the victim was able to work with Verizon and have the second contract terminated at no cost to him.

SARASOTA
April 8
 2:45 p.m.
— 8498 Lockwood Ridge Road (Bank of America). Trespass warning. The male suspect was causing a disturbance at the bank and was given a trespass warning. The male was told not to return to the bank and that the remainder of his account balance would be mailed to him. The responding deputy advised the suspect if he returned, he would be subject to arrest. The male also was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

SUMMERFIELD
April 7
 8 p.m.
— 11200 block of Rivers Bluff Circle. Auto burglary. Unknown person(s) broke the passenger side window of the complainant’s vehicle and removed from the cargo area a milk crate containing items. The tailgate was opened to remove the milk crate and left open. Change also was stolen.
