Mote Island Quest — takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at Mote Marine, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway. This week’s topic is “Treasure Hunters.” Explore and collect critters from Sarasota Bay using the techniques of Mote scientists. Pre-registration is required. The Colony’s Fourth of July Beach Party, Barbecue and Fireworks Show — begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort, 1620 Gulf of Mexico Drive. The celebration features a buffet of summer favorites, games, dancing and a dazzling fireworks show. Limited reservations for non-guests are available. Cost is $45 for adults; $24 for children. Eighth Annual St. Armands Boat Show — takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, at St. Armands Circle Park. The show is sponsored by Marine Max. Call 388-1554.

Longbeach Village Fireworks Show — begins at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 4, on Sarasota Bay. Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub, 760 Broadway, and Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant, 800 Broadway, will have special seating and packages available for the show.
