Manatee County Commissioner Carol Whitmore is rounding up a team of volunteers to bathe dogs at Manatee County Animal Services July 10.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Animal Services, 305 25th St. W., Palmetto.

Animal services cares for 250 dogs and cats, but has only seven staff members.

"They need our help," Whitmore said. "I'm asking that everyone bring dog shampoo and old towels. Staff has areas where we can do this and we will work with the dog walkers to get the dogs back into the kennel after a quick bath.

"If you don't like dogs, come anyway with cat combs and brushes and we'll keep you busy," she said.
