Town Manager Dave Bullock and Commissioner Jack Duncan walked the beach behind the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Tuesday, Jan. 29 to assess the view of the boarded up resort from the Gulf.

Aquarius resident Greg Van Howe invited them to the Colony to show the perspective of the resort from the beach, which many residents believe needs cleaned up.

In an email to Bullock and Duncan written Jan. 29, Van Howe urged the town to clean up the appearance from the beach.

“As you both witnessed this property is showing significant outward signs of disrepair that is highly visible during a casual stroll on our beautiful beach,” Van Howe said. “Anything that can be done to require the Colony to begin securing all buildings and stairways in compliance with the minimum housing standard as dictated by town code, and in line with the conditions dictated in the extension resolution, would be greatly appreciated.”

Duncan told the Longboat Observer the town could work with the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Association on the outward appearance somewhat, but said most of the resort’s appearance is just signs of abandonment the town cannot force the Association to fix.
