Longboat Key Commissioner Jack Duncan and the rest of the Longboat Key Town Commission’s efforts to spruce up the entrance of the dilapidated Colony Beach & Tennis Resort entrance is paying off.

Duncan has been working with Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Association officials for weeks to remove a long, tilting palm tree in front of the former Colony sign.

The palm tree was recently removed and plants will be planted in its place.

“The palm is now gone and I'm hoping some inexpensive, well placed plants and flowers will make it acceptable,” said Duncan Monday in an email to Longboat Key resident Ed Krepela. “We have been promised the entrance will be cleaned up.”

Krepela was glad to hear it.

“The tilting palm and the shoddy appearance of the Colony entrance have been a topic of discussion between my wife and I for quite some time,” Krepela wrote in an email to Duncan. “For not a lot of money the entire entrance of the Colony could be cleaned up.”
