Braden River Middle School students launched homemade rockets during the 11th Annual Night Under the Stars event hosted by the school’s science department April 7.

The East County Observer caught up with students to see what they’d learned.

Trevor Williams
What did you think about launching your rocket?
It was fun. It just stunk I couldn’t get my rocket afterward (because the parachute didn’t deploy).

What did you learn in the process?
Rockets don’t always deploy their parachutes correctly.

Andrew Klein
What was your favorite part?
I don’t like the launching as much as making (the rocket). It’s neat seeing it come together. It was a big jumble of parts at first.

Jordan Sutton
What was it like to launch your rocket?
I found it very exciting how it coasted through the air. I really like rockets. This would be the third one I’ve launched.

Tristan Skipper
What has been the neatest thing you’ve learned during this study on astronomy?
The galaxies and the universe — to know how big it can be.

Leanna Flores
What did you think about building a rocket and then launching it?
I liked learning it because you can see if you did a good job building it or if you could have made it better somehow.

What would you have done differently?
Probably put the wings on right.

What did you think about launching your rocket?
It’s amazing to see something you made out of such simple materials shoot up into the air.
