Commissioner Dick Clapp has decided against requesting a ballot inspection in his razor-thin District 2 race.

Clapp lost by just 14 votes to challenger Paul Caragiulo.

“It’s been a nice four years,” Clapp said.

After a March 11 recount, the incumbent had drafted a letter asking for a ballot inspection, in which an independent party would manually count more than 3,400 ballots.

But after reflecting over the weekend, Clapp changed his mind.

He said he plans to stay civically active, perhaps in his neighborhood association in Indian Beach/Sapphire Shores.

The City Commission today unanimously certified the March 8 election results, which make Caragiulo and Shannon Snyder official winners.

A District 1 runoff between Willie Shaw and Linda Holland will take place May 10.
