The makeup of the Sarasota City Commission will change toward the end of the year, and next week, the city will begin to gather a field of candidates interested in joining the governing body.

Commissioners Shannon Snyder and Paul Caragiulo, both candidates for the open District 2 County Commission seat, have filed their letters of resignation with the city, due to take effect no later than Nov. 18. The remaining commissioners will appoint replacements to serve the final months of the departing commissioners’ terms.

Those hoping to fill the vacant District 2 and District 3 commission seats may officially register their interest with the city next week. The city will accept applications beginning noon on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Candidates will have until noon on Friday, Sept. 12 to submit the requisite paperwork, which includes a questionnaire used for gubernatorial appointments.

All forms can be found on the city’s website, or in person at the office of the City Auditor and Clerk.

A special meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19, to select the new commissioners. Both terms expire in May 2015.
