The city will ring in the holiday season with a parade Saturday evening, causing several streets to close downtown throughout the day.

The Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, starting its route at Main Street and U.S. 301. Street closures for the event are scheduled as follows:

12 p.m.

+ Main Street, from U.S. 301 to School Avenue

5 p.m.

+ Gulfstream Avenue, from U.S. 41 to Church of the Redeemer (222 S. Palm Ave.)
+ U.S. 301, from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard

6:30 p.m.

+ Main Street, from U.S. 301 to U.S. 41.
+ The Hollywood 20 parking garage will also close.

Towing will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the tow-zone areas, according to a Sarasota Police Department release. Streets will reopen once the end of the parade reaches a two-block distance from each road closure.

The parade will end at J.D. Hamel Park, located at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.
