The Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce is sailing forward with plans for Sunday’s Longboat Key Challenge despite a 40% rain chance.

According to Chamber President Tom Aposporos, about 40 people have registered for the human-powered watercraft race, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, at the Longboat Key Town Dock. Aposporos said participants will be called early Sunday morning if weather conditions will prevent the race from taking place. If the race is rained out, the planned after party will occur as scheduled at noon at Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub, 760 Broadway.

A pre-party will take place at 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and Design, 6860 Longboat Drive S.
