State College of Florida District Board of Trustees asked Dr. Carol Probstfeld to continue as interim president at a Dec. 18 meeting, a school release states.

Probstfeld, vice president of business and administrative services, initially accepted the interim position at a November board meeting with the expectation the board would hire an interim president from outside the college to serve while the board conducts a national presidential search.

In agreeing to continue as interim president until the presidential search finishes, Probstfeld said, “If it is the will of the board, I will accept the position. It is a big job, but we have the world’s hardest-working, dedicated staff, and I am confident that together, we will refocus our energy on the mission of the college.”

The board will pay her an additional $5,000 per month while she is filling both the interim president’s and vice president’s positions.

Former president Lars Hafner departed in late October with a $363,000 severance deal prompted by months of conflict with trustees over financial issues.

The board selected three search consultants to make presentations at a Jan. 22 special board meeting about the president search: ACCT, Hockaday-Hartford and NS&EC.

The board also selected members of the presidential search committee, including members of the school’s staff and administration, plus students.

Trustee Carlos Beruff was named chair of the presidential search committee.
