PALM-AIRE
The members of the Palm Aire Country Club had a chance to experience a week of April in Paris without leaving home. The weeklong celebration offered French cuisine as well as showing movie classics such as “April in Paris” and “Irma la Deuce” during the day.

Then, on April 24, members enjoyed a French-inspired bash complete with boas, berets and more. Most enjoyed taking photos in front of the 9-foot-long, hand-painted Can Can Dancers at the Moulin Rouge. 
Once in the dinning room, decorated with spring azalea centerpieces surrounded by the French Flag colors of Blue, White and Red.

A special thank you to Maureen Ray, manager of AAA in Lakewood Ranch, for furnishing the French travel posters, flyers and Eiffel tower and to Judy Broihier and Barbara Walters, the dining room decorating committee.

LAKEWOOD RANCH
After months of searching, the Lakewood Ranch Elks Lodge 2855 has found a permanent home.
The organization signed a lease for the property at 4908 Lena Road and will take occupancy June 1. After furnishing it, the lodge will host a grand opening later this summer.
Until then, the lodge will continue to meet at the Sarasota Polo Club.

EAST COUNTY
Napier’s Log Cabin Horse & Animal Sanctuary will host an adoption event from 5-8 p.m., May 8, at Wal-Mart, 6225 S.R. 64 E.

Several cats will be available for adoption. Come see what the sanctuary has to offer and learn what it does for the community and animals needing homes. Brochures and newsletters will be available with information and photos of available animals for adoption.

Cats and most kittens for adoption have shots including Rabies & Leukemia, are spayed or neutered, FIV/Leuk. neg., have 30 days of free pet insurance for illnesses and are microchipped for ID. Most cats are $45; most kittens and declawed cats are $60 adoption donation. Adoption donations help cover the costs of the above items and for the care and feeding of all of the animals at the sanctuary.

SARASOTA
The Center for Musical Theatre at Julie Rohr Academy will present the classic Rodgers and Hart musical, “Babes in Arms,” at 7 p.m., May 15, at on the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Ave.

The show takes place at the Surf and Sand Playhouse in Cape Cod, where many actors are working as apprentices for no pay in hopes of being discovered. In addition to the apprentices, there is the ingénue, the producer, the villain, the stage mother, the world’s oldest living apprentice and the southern playwright. Add lighting, sound, backdrops and tunes such as “My Funny Valentine” and “Johnny One Note” and the result is a memorable evening for the audience.
