+ Property owner to pay for violation
Lucinda Geeding, owner of 789 Broadway, will pay the town $770 in administrative costs while avoiding additional fees if she brings her property into compliance with town codes by 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, the Longboat Key Code Enforcement Board decided at its Jan. 13 meeting. Geeding appeared before the board to address a violation involving junk and discarded material. She told the board that she had not been living in the property and had been unaware of its condition.

+ Longboat BP goes postal
Longboat BP will begin operating as a contract post office Wednesday, Jan. 20. Customers will be able to weigh packages and pay for postage in addition to filling up their tanks and using the car spa at the BP station. The Longboat Key Post Office will supervise the BP station’s postal services. As a contract post office, it will not be permitted to sell postal money orders or operate post-office boxes. Postal service hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

+ PIC board member resigns
Betty Blair sent a letter to the Longboat Key Public Interest Committee Board of Directors dated Jan. 8, announcing her resignation from the board, effective immediately.

Blair, who now lives in Sarasota, said one of the reasons she decided to resign was because she didn’t like the position PIC took regarding Mayor Lee Rothenberg. PIC has urged Rothenberg not to run for another term in office because the committee believes the voters would not want him to run for more than six years.
