A proposed project would light up the underside of John Ringling Causeway with bright blue LED lights.

Representatives at Evolucia, a local LED lighting manufacturer, have said the company is willing to donate the lighting at no cost to the city.

“The early proposal from Evolucia was to provide all new fixtures designed to the newest lighting technology and utilize multi-colored LED lights to allow the City to modify the color depending on a variety of holidays and events,” read a proposal emailed to city officials March 20 from Katie Moulton, of Hospitality Advisory Services.

The project would replace current lighting with 72 state-of-the-art “sea worthy” light fixtures throughout the underside of the bridge. A local lighting contractor, Roadrunner, has also signed on to donate time and labor to install the lighting.

The project requires city approval. City commissioners could discuss the light proposal at an upcoming commission meeting.

Project advocates say it would illuminate the Ringling Causeway in “stunning blue light to reflect the natural beauty of the water and sky that surrounds it.”
