Bicyclists in fair condition after crash

Two bicyclists remain hospitalized in fair condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after an accident that occurred Saturday morning on Longboat Key, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed Monday afternoon.

According to a Longboat Key Police Department report, Cristi Eslinger, 45, Regina Bonynge, 46, both of Sarasota, sustained serious injuries when they were struck by a 2008 silver Mercedes-Benz driven by Milton Comer, 81, of Longboat Key, while riding their bicycles Saturday morning southbound on Gulf of Mexico Drive near Outrigger Lane. A third bicyclist, Harry Hammond, 52, of Sarasota, was not injured.

Eslinger and Bonyge were transported by Bayflite helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center.
