Town Manager Bruce St. Denis alerted the Town Commission Thursday in an e-mail that the town is ready to present some sand option to review.

The town manager is hoping the commission and residents come to a consensus on what type of sand to use for its next beach renourishment project.

Wrote St. Denis in an e-mail dated March 4: “We have reached a point where we have assembled the reconnaissance level information on the sand search for the 2011-12 beach nourishment project. Unfortunately, we have not found the desired large-grained, white sand that would solve all our problems. However we have identified several options that the town commission can consider in determining the sand that will be used for the next beach project.”

Commissioners will review fine white sand, slightly larger-grain sand and coarse gray sand alternatives at its regular workshop at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

Town beach engineer Coastal Planning & Engineering will discuss the advantages and disadvantages, issues associated with and the relative cost of the use of each type of sand.

The town does not have cost estimates for the 2011-12 beach project at this time.
