Authorities investigating apparent suicide

After discovering a body inside a burning truck today, authorities believe the incident was the result of a suicide.

Sarasota fire and sheriff’s office officials began investigating the incident earlier today after a teal-colored pickup was found around 11 a.m. near the south end of Nathan Benderson Park.

Sarasota Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Wendy Rose said it is believed the fire was set intentionally by the vehicle’s owner.

“The vehicle fire appears to be a suicide and that is how the investigation is proceeding,” she said.

Authorities have not yet released the identify of the individual who died.
