Authorities crack down on DUIs

Manatee County authorities have ended a three-week crack down of traffic violations with multiple DUI, felony and other arrests to show for their efforts.

The traffic unit of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office from Aug. 19 to Sept. 5 participated in the Labor Day DUI Enforcement Wave in conjunction with the 2011 DUI Challenge sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

With more than 1,000 man-hour worked, the local campaign resulted in 30 DUI arrests, 61 safety belt violations, 13 felony arrests, two child restraint violations, one fugitive apprehended, 34 suspended license violations, 16 uninsured motorist violations, 273 speeding violations, three drug arrests and 28 other arrests, a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report states.
