The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

Lakewood Ranch High freshman Ramsey Touchberry shot a 2-under par to capture the Class 2A-District 14 individual championship Oct. 18 in Lake Suzy. Touchberry also helped propel the Mustangs to their first district team championship since 2003. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What is the biggest strength of your game?
On any given day, it’s usually fairways. I hit a fair amount of fairways.

How did you get into golfing?
When I was 5 years old, I started taking lessons with a friend. Before that, I used to do miniature putt-putt.

What do you enjoy the most about golf?
How challenging it is and how every course is different.

What’s your favorite course?
The Pinehurst courses. I like the way the pine trees line the fairways. The courses are hillier than they are here. I really like the North Carolina courses because there are more trees, so it sets you up differently.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to go to college on a golf scholarship and see where that takes me. I want to get a law degree though and do litigation or be some type of attorney.

If you could go anywhere on vacation where would it be and why?
Hawaii. I always hear how nice it is, and I haven’t been there.

Do you have any siblings?
I have one half-brother, Matt, who is 30.

What’s your favorite TV show?
“The Office.” I like the humor. It’s a good thing to watch, and it (makes) you laugh.

What’s your favorite subject?
Speech. It’s a fun class, and the teacher is really nice. We have a lot of fun in there.

What do you like to do when you aren’t playing golf?
I just like to relax, watch TV and hang out with friends.
