Lakewood Ranch High senior Peter Latham recorded a pin in the 215-pound weight class to help the host Mustangs defeat Sarasota 39-30 Jan. 20. The second-year wrestler followed up his victory by going undefeated at the Palm Harbor High School Duals Jan. 22 to Jan. 23, helping lead the Mustangs to a fifth-place finish. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What is your fondest wrestling memory?
I would have to say my favorite memory is of the first tournament I went to, which was the Sarasota Classic at the Convention Center. It was the first time I ever wrestled varsity in my life, and I managed to go undefeated. I was really happy with that.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a general practitioner. I’ve always liked the medical field, and I’ve always been interested in working with a lot of people. So I thought being a general practitioner would work for me.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes. I have an older sister, Caroline, who is 20 and goes to USF, and a younger sister, Alex, who is in eighth grade at Haile Middle School.

Who is your favorite actor or actress?
Andy Samberg. He’s more of a comedian than an actor, but he’s hilarious.

Do you have any specific rituals you follow before games or matches?
During football season we do the same thing before every game. We have dinner together and then hang out. We sit in the dark weight room and talk about the most random stuff. And for wrestling, I know you’re not supposed to, but I’ve always got to get McDonald’s. I always get yelled at for it, though.

What’s your favorite subject?
I would say any form of history, economics or government. I really like any form of social studies because it’s more about facts and interesting knowledge.
