Chantal Diem, a Village resident, played tennis growing up in France. Although she continued to play singles as an adult, it wasn’t until she discovered doubles 12 years ago that she became passionate about the game.

How often do you play tennis and what’s your favorite court?
I play four or five times a week, and the Public Tennis Center is my favorite place to play. I have been a member since it was organized.

Do you take lessons?
I have taken lessons with Dave Sparks at the Tennis Center and continue with others. But Dave helped my game considerably.

What do you feel is your best tennis move?
I love to play the net and the overhead shots.

What needs improvement?
I would say, definitely, my serve. It is too weak, but I’m working on it.

Who’s your favorite doubles partner?
Rosie Herke. We play well together. She’ s great with ball placement and strategy. We are taking doubles lessons together.

Who is your most admired tennis player?
Monica Seles. She’s a lefty like me. Being a lefty is fun. My opponents on the court don’t know where to serve.

Do you have a routine you follow?
Before I play, I always have oatmeal and usually a banana. I also drink a lot of water before and during matches.

What do you like best about tennis?
I love to be outdoors, and I like the pace on the court. I enjoy the game, and at the Tennis Center I have made a lot of friends. We socialize off the court, too.
