The months of late-night team meetings and estimated 1,000 hours of collaborated work paid off for Lakewood Ranch High sophomore Aly Cote, 16, and her group this week.
Allegiance Race Team won second place in the F1— or Formula One — in Schools World Finals competition that commenced Nov. 13. This is the third time students from Southeast High School have ranked in the top three at the world level since 2010.
Cote, the only member of the group who doesn't attend Southeast, felt her team's race car had something that set her team a part from the rest — tires that could spin for a minute and a half, she said.
Australia took first and Germany placed third.
