If a film is marked "Artist in Attendance" that means you are in for an incredible experience. One or more of the filmmakers (director/producer/writer/etc.) will be in the theater to do a Q&A with the audience after the movie. Actors sometimes appear as well.SOFT IN THE HEAD

WORLD PREMIERE AT SARASOTA FILM FESTIVAL

Artist in Attendance

Thrown out of her New York City apartment, Natalia (Sheila Etxeberria) relies on the kindness of friends and strangers. Seemingly unaware of the havoc she wreaks, she skips from one place to another, including her best friend's, where she drunkenly crashes a holiday meal. Natalia ends up staying at a shelter run by genuinely good Maury, who takes an interest in making her life better -- but life is not that simple. Set on the cacophonous streets of New York, SOFT IN THE HEAD is a look at how easy it is to lose one’s head in the big city.

Mike is an actor. Or he used to be. Or he still could be. Except Maggie is also an actor, and a more successful one at that. As Maggie books bigger and bigger roles – and works longer and longer hours – Mike is left at home taking care of their newborn son. About to miss yet another audition due to Maggie’s schedule, Mike makes a life-changing mistake: he leaves their son alone and goes anyway. FORBIDDEN VOICES

Their voices are suppressed, prohibited and censored. But world-famous bloggers Yoani Sánchez, Zeng Jinyan and Farnaz Seifi are not frightened of their dictatorial regimes. These fearless women stand for a new, networked generation of modern rebels. In Cuba, China and Iran their blogs shake the foundations of the state information monopoly – putting their lives at great risk. Barbara Miller’s FORBIDDEN VOICES follows these women on their journey and trace their use of social media like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to denounce and combat the violations of human rights and freedom of speech in their countries, triggering international pressure for reform.

Artist in Attendance

An estimated 42 people a year have been killed in Chicago by the Fisk and Crawford coal-burning plants, two of the oldest remaining in the US. Leila Mendez, who has lived 4 blocks from the Fisk since she was 9 years old, knew nothing about this until she herself got cancer. She has since worked tirelessly to shut down these plants, which she comes to realize disproportionately affect people of color. MONSTERS follows Leila over several years - through triumphs and setbacks, and above all is testimony to the power of hope.
