Weekend hot spot: Sarasota Beer Festival

Looking for something to do this weekend? Then follow me to the Sarasota Beer Festival this Saturday at Robarts Arena.

In the spotlight

Our Single in Sarasota blogger fulfills her lifelong wish of being on television.

Calling all applicants

How coffee dates and dinner dates can lead to late-night karaoke and celebrity sightings — Sarasota style.

The Texan takeover

Saturday night concluded with a steamy make-out on Main Street.

"Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Snore, and you sleep alone."

It's early. Too early. I just woke up to what I suspected was Tony's Boston terrier, Papa Guido (yes, the dang dog has two names!), making his constant and insanely annoying mouth noises.

My boyfriend pumices his feet. And, yes, I have a boyfriend.

Our Single in Sarasota blogger comes clean.

Mean, green driving machine

Our Single in Sarasota blogger covets at least one perk of her job as a roving city reporter.

Don't call me metal mouth

A visit to the orthodontist's chair takes our Single in Sarasota gal on a trip down memory lane of braces days of yore.

Miami: machine guns and Japanese ice cream

A long weekend in Miami can only mean one thing for our Single in Sarasota blogger: crazy stories and a fun-filled time.

'Wearing pink makes men more likely to approach you ...'

A few months back, I went to the Sarasota Young Professionals Group happy hour at Canvas Café with Mishelle and the Republican. I left work just before 5 p.m., ran home to freshen up — a girl _080409-pink-shoes-2can always use a splash of perfume, a brush of blush across the cheeks and some lip gloss. (Just keep in mind there’s an increasing number of men who say they hate the “plumper” lip gloss because it stings them during a kiss!)

About Loren Mayo

I’m a stair-tripping, shower-singing, super sarcastic pain in the rear. My friends constantly tell me I need to be on stage somewhere. My own mother pokes fun at me because I cackle when I laugh and sometimes I even snort. I love curling up in bed when it’s raining and dancing in my car at stoplights. I spend as much time as I can outdoors, unless it’s super cold and then I need a massive bonfire, s’mores and a stack of blankets. I have a walk-in closet that is filled with too many shoes and needs to be extended about 10 feet. I never leave the house without a camera and am always writing story ideas on tiny pieces of paper, which usually get lost in my purse collection.  Bad grammar and spelling are definitely deal-breakers and drive me crazy! I have an addiction to the water that I can’t quit (but certainly tried to when I moved to upstate New York). My favorite flowers are gerber daisies, orchids and tulips. I’m infatuated with polka dots. I fall easily for men who are musically inclined. I am a big fan of fried okra the way my grandma used to make it.  I’m always up to something. I love hardwood floors, funky paintings, sensual music, sarcastic people and Christmas. I frequent the movie theater just because I’m craving popcorn and I think most photography looks better in black and white. I’m definitely a night owl. My room is decorated in lime green and light blue and reminds me of a spa. I’m fond of picnics, late night dinners, cabernet (even though it turns my lips and teeth slightly purple), Ceviche’s mojitos and Selva Grill’s bellini martinis. French toast makes me weak in the knees — may I have more powdered sugar, please?
