I always thought it would be cool if humans somehow emitted music while they walked — a soundtrack revealing their emotions or thoughts at every moment.
Amid the requisite scowls and furrowed brows holiday shopping seems to unearth each December, tonight, my family experienced a random act of kindness that restored my faith in human nature.
I posed this question on Facebook over the weekend: Is it wrong to put my own son on the front page of my newspaper?
She's perfect. The lines and curves of her steel frame beg for attention. And with that showroom-wax finish, she glistens in the sun like a baby blue diamond.
I read recently a letter in the “American Journalism Review” from John Hourihan, a Connecticut-based reporter. In it, he posited that the newspaper industry’s well-documented struggles should be blamed on myriad bad decisions: a neglect of the customer base, a disconnect with readership and, ultimately, the wrong focus.
Today, I received a messy — but effective — reminder of one crucial parental fact: My child is not a toy.
Do you ever have those times when you know — as it’s happening — that the moment will be one cemented in your mind as among the most treasured of your life? It happened to my wife, Jess, and me today...
My left shoulder is killing me. Like I just spent too much time in the gym. But both my Body Mass Index and my YMCA card know that’s not the case.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife, Jess, our son, Lyric and our corgi, Beta. I also tolerate our three cats, Chester, Coda and Inga.
I love music and currently play drums for the St. Pete-based band The Human Condition and at Cornerstone Church of Lakewood Ranch on Saturday nights. When time allows, I teach lessons privately.
