The Sarasota Orchestra had its very first performance of the season Thursday with various members β the Sarasota Brass Quintet, a small chamber ensemble and, finally, the Sarasota Chamber Orchestra β playing what they called "Baroque Bites" in Holley Hall.
Flew yesterday from cool, breezy, sunny Santa Fe to torridly hot (how's 106?) San Angelo in West Texas to see Ed's family and catch up a bit.
Sometimes there's a reason a work by a famous composer isn't performed too often.
We're staying at the charming and picturesque Bishop's Lodge, located on Bishop's Lodge Road (of course), about 3 miles outside downtown Santa Fe, N.M.
Can't figure out which is giving us more pleasure in Santa Fe - the music or the food.
Just back from hearing "Susan Graham and Friends" at the magnificent Santa Fe Opera House.
Blogger June LeBell sets off on the first leg of her summer trip to Los Angeles followed by Sante Fe, N.M.
This season, Sarasota Opera is bringing us Samuel Barber's 'Vanessa,' a Gothic love story with a passionate libretto by Gian-Carlo Menotti based on a set of stories attributed to Isak Dinesen.
After reviewing 'My Fair Lady' based on its opening-night preview, June LeBell attends a matinee performance to see if it could improve on its stellar opener.
A quick excerpt from an interview with the new conductor and artistic director of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
About June LeBell
Sarasota is now my home but I will always remember my roots in the upper west side of Manhattan. It's where I learned to love good music, great food and fascinating people. I had the good fortune to make a 30-year career as a staff announcer and "On Air Personality" with WQXR radio, interview hundreds of the greatest classical music performers and learn from them about the things I love. Along the way, I wrote for Gourmet Magazine, the New York Times, Ovation, Stage Bill and many other periodicals I once thought I'd only get to read. Now, living with my husband (an opera conductor and music administrator) and our two dogs — Lily and Rosy — here in Sarasota, and continuing my exciting life in music, I'm very excited about sharing my passions with you. I've never been so happy and enthusiastic about life. It's an enthusiasm that's positively contagious and I hope that my writing will make you catch it!
