About Dora Walters

Before the cartoon character became a household name, our very own “Dora the Explorer,” also known as Senior Editor Dora Walters, was busy exploring Longboat Key and Sarasota, interviewing residents, writing stories and snapping photos.

Walters moved to Sarasota approximately 40 years ago. She freelanced for newspapers before Channel 13 news assigned her to cover “anything south of the Skyway Bridge.” She was the station’s first female TV photographer and reporter in the area.

Walters began her career at The Longboat Observer in 1986, back when the newspaper processed film only in its bathroom.

During her career as a reporter, Dora has covered everything from murders to meet-and-greets.

When she isn’t busy reporting, Dora enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Mickey and The Boarder, and cat, Mr. K. Buddha.

Her blog posts reflect what life is like in her summer home, Morganton, Ga., population 283.
