People and pups united to celebrate Halloween with the 18th annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest Saturday morning at J.D. Hamel Park.

The Humane Society of Sarasota County hosted the annual event and added a fun walk to this year's festivities. The event began when the crowd gathered to start a 3-mile fun walk across the John Ringling Causeway in costume.

After walking off competition jitters the parade of pups and their owners lined up for the costume contest. Costumes ranged from spooky to silly with witches, cowboys and college football foes.
