The day that is marked nationally brings awareness to the safety and consideration to the blind or visually impaired citizens navigating streets.

Shaw wore pairs of glasses for the exercise that give the effect of being blind or visually impaired. He then was followed by members of the Sarasota Council of the Blind to learn how to navigate the roundabout at the Five Points intersection. Shaw had to learn how to use a white cane to feel for grooves in the road to safely cross the streets.
