The number of sales of homes and condos last month in Sarasota County was nearly 20% higher than those in August 2008.
The Sarasota Association of Realtors reported 498 property sales last month, compared to 415 sales the previous year.
In addition, the inventory of for-sale properties is shrinking. There were 3,949 single-family homes and 2,343 condos for sale at the end of August. At the end of August 2008, there were 6,461 homes and 2,407 condos for sale.

A home in Shoreland Woods tops all transactions in this week's real estate. The Northern Trust Co., trustee, and Katharine Schindler, trustee, of Naples, sold the home at 3336 Old Oak Drive to Douglas and Sharyn Chapman, of Sarasota, for $2.3 million. -
The Players Club condo sells for $1.1 million

A condominium in The Players Club tops all transactions in this week’s real estate. Mattson Family LLC and Walter and Geraldine Mattson, of Longboat Key, sold the Unit 505 condominium at 1425 Gulf of Mexico Drive to Lori Brochin, trustee, of Atlanta, for $1.1 million.
