Balloons, hot dogs and ice cream, oversized sunglasses and roaring laughter Sept. 25 filled the inside of Freedom Elementary. During the annual Mother-Son Night event, teams of mothers and their children competed against other families in a range of challenges, such as Tug of War, a three-legged race and Hungry Hippo. All the games required teammates to work together, such as walking and carrying eggs on spoons with their legs banded together. More than 150 families attended the event, which Principal Jim Mennes changes each year. "We have our daddy-daughter dances, and we're not going to change those," Mennes said. "But we like to do something special for our moms, something different."
