Church of the Redeemer held a wine and cheese soft kick-off on Saturday to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James’ version of The Bible. The anniversary is on Oct. 9, and for the entire month of October the church will be celebrating with a Biblethon reading of the bible from start to finish, a display of old bibles and it is hosting a choir who will perform Handel’s “Messiah.”
The King James’ version was one of the first English translations. King James ordered a committee of scholars to produce a faithful translation to be read in public. It was just one feature of the protestant reformation.
