Jewish Theological Seminary Outreach Weekend takes place from 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Temple Beth Sholom. Dr. David Roskies, professor of Jewish Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary, will speak on “The Making of the Modern Jewish Memory.” Dr. Roskies is an author, Jewish literature professor and cultural historian of eastern European Jewry. During Friday night services, which start at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, he will be speaking about “Covenantal Memory: How Jews Remember.” During his presentation during Saturday services, which start at at 9 a.m., he will discuss “In Wartime: When the Cannons Roar, the Muses are Never Silent." At 12:30 pm, Dr. Roskies will discuss “Reading in Time: A Holocaust Curriculum for Conservative Jews.”

Eight graduates and their guide dogs spent the afternoon enjoying their new companionship. Guests heard from Southeaster Guide Dog alumnus guest speaker Donald Olinger. "I'm absolutely ecstatic," says Tina Ladner of bringing her guide, Tangerine, home.
