The Open Center presents Bob Waxman, Ph.D. at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Unity of sarasota. Only 60 seats available. Includes Q&A and open discussion. Bob Waxman is an author, educator, and guest speaker on Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. Waxman has been teaching classes on comparative spirituality for 15 years and holds a masters degree in comparative religion and a Ph.D in human sciences.

Children from all over Sarasota County participated in the 2013 Sarasota Kiwanis Spelling Bee Program Friday, May 17 at the Lee Wetherington Boys and Girls Club. More than 100 third and fourth graders in bright yellow t – shirts competed to show off their skills and win one of three cash prizes. Booker High School and Sarasota High School Key Club sold pizza for $1 a slice and parents quizzed children in preparation for the spelling bee. -
