- Oh please ! Sister Cities does nothing, cut the 10 grand now. Many of those suggestions make sense some do not. Employee benefits are granted as a condition of employement. Pensions especially. You can decide when an employee is nearing the end of thier career to decrease benefits causing that employees financial future to now be is total disarray. Besides the city cries poor mouth on one hand and then spends on outlandish projects on the other....I dont believe the problem is as bad as painted...but dump the sister city project anyway...its just a vacation junket for a few privleged anyway .!!

- Sarasota Sister Cities Association has been serving the city as a key bridge for volunteer citizen diplomacy between Sarasota and 7 other sister cities of Sarasota around the globe. All directors, officers have been serving this non-profit organization on a voluntary basis tirelessly. We bring cultural and art exchanges, student exchanges continuously into Sarasota from abroad; we send outstanding, qualified Sarasoatans abroad, funded by community donation funds, to enhance global awareness and appreciation of diversities and are able to offer interesting flavors of our sister cities in Scotland, France, Italy, Canada, China, Russia and Mexico to Sarasota; We have created significant impacts with our schools and communities with excellent arrays of exchange programs for educational, arts, sports. We have made these positive, nourishing, soul searching, life changing experiences possible for so many involved citizens in Sarasota's community at large. To Cut the mere $10,000 will be a crime against pursuit of betterment of our education, global new idea exchanges and offer of good will plus all of our intellectual ideals for all of the hundreds of hard working volunteers currently involved. I have served as a bridge between Sarasota and Xiamen City, China since 2008 as a very involved facilitator. I strongly object to this budget cut proposal.
