Gulf Gate Library will move to a space in Westfield Sarasota Square Mall in January after its current location closes next month, according to a news release from Sarasota County.
The roughly 20,000-square-foot temporary space will also house the Friends of Gulf Gate Library Bookstore. The county is leasing the location from Sarasota Shoppingtown LLC for roughly $5,400 per month.
The county expects construction of the new two-story Gulf Gate Library to begin in February and take about 18 months.

- Traffic at the library is bad enough as it is. Doubling the size is only going to increase traffic congestion and accidents. I also don't understand how the county can place a public library inside a residential neighborhood. Finally snowbirds and residents blow through the four way stop sign there at Gulfgate and Curtis all the time. It's just a matter time before someone gets killed.
