Sarasota County will create temporary staff positions and buy landscaping equipment this week, after contractors continue to disappoint with median mowing.
The contractor responsible for taming overgrowth on Canal Road in the middle of Siesta Key hasn’t met county expectations, said County Field Services Director Spencer Anderson in a phone interview with the Pelican Press.
It will take at least two weeks for the county to catch up on Canal Road mowing, but Anderson said there could be as many as 28 new positions created this week in addition to the five county employees already filling mowing voids left by contractors. Some of those new positions could become permanent, he said.
