FDOT focuses on safety with pedestrian islands proposal

If as is cannot be the solution. I suggest the following. Install pedestrian stop lights at the cross over. each light operated by push button and red for only 20 seconds with countdown clocks on both sides. Push buttons once activated can only be reactivated after a wait of three minutes.
A vehicle traveling the full length of the area, could possibly stop 6 times for a total of 120 seconds or 2 minutes. Roughly the total of one traffic light. Remember each light can only be activated by the pedestrian and cannot be activated more often than every three minutes and twenty seconds
