At 9 a.m. Saturday, at the Venice Train Depot in Venice. Sarasota County officals will gather with other community representatives — and, undoubtedly, more than a few cyclists — to celebrate the opening of the Legacy Trail pedestrian overpass.
The event will be held at 303 E. Venice Ave.
Then, everyone will head out to the overpass itself for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The construction of the overpass, which connects the Legacy Trail on the north and south sides of the U.S. 41 Bypass, began in late fall 2010. The bridge provides a 12-foot-wide path over the road, with access to and from the existing sidewalks along the bypass. The overpass is about 900 feet long.
The $3.1 million project was handled by ZEP Construction Inc. of Fort Myers.
