Livability.com named Sarasota number one in its top-ten list of spring break destination for families. The list sought to highlight vacation destinations that offer a break from the stereotypical college party towns.
“An ideal destination provides a wide range of activities for families with children of different ages and interests,” said Annette Thompson, Society of American Travel Writers board member. “There should be things to do both indoors and outdoors as the weather is not something even the best itinerary can predict.”
Other cities on the list, after Sarasota, were Henderson, Nev., Charleston, S.C., Lafayette, La., Harbor Springs, Mich., Hot Springs, Ark., Gainesville, Ga., Las Cruces, N.M., Ogden, Utah and Del Rio, Texas.

- Best advice is to stay away from the beach during spring break. If you actually live here it is too cold for you at spring break time, to say nothing of the noise, waiting and fender benders or worse.
