Siesta Key Kiwanis Club members had a swashbuckling good time at their annual fundraiser gala Saturday, March 23, at the Sarasota Yacht Club. The theme of the 12th annual gala was “the mighty pirate invasion,” and guests showed off their best pirate garb while raising money for the club.

The Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce held a business card exchange social Thursday, March 22 t Day Hagan Asset Management to let business owners network and socialize. Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kevin Cooper said, “the social aspect of business is just as important as the working aspect.” Approximately 45 people attended the event where refreshments and appetizers were served. Business owners also celebrated birthday of events and office manager Chastanna Niemann with a cake from Costco.

St. Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church Women’s Guild held their annual fashion show An Affair to Remember Thursday, March 14 at Michael’s On East to raise money for local charities. Three hundred women attended the event and watched women model clothing from A-Tu. Women bought raffle tickets for a chance to win cash and one of 31 door prizes. “We always come to this, we just love it. Its just so elegant and fun,” said Marlene Csillag.

Sarasota High junior Emily Harding will have nine varsity letters following the 2013 track season and is on pace to tie the school record of 12 varsity letters by the time she graduates next year.

Sarasota Military Academy freshman Isaac Weintraub fought his way to the semifinals, winning a bronze medal in his sparring division at the U.S. Open Taekwondo Tournament Feb. 19 to Feb. 23, in Las Vegas.
