When Siesta Key residents flip on coverage of the Republican National Convention, they might see some familiar — furry — faces. The horses that mounted Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputies ride while patrolling the Siesta beach parking lot during busy days will take the big stage in Tampa, while helping to keep protestors in order this week.

The equines are equipped with special face guards to project them from any potential projectiles. The Republican National Convention Committee will be reimbursing any costs incurred by Sheriff’s Office staff, including horse feed.
