Siesta Dunes condominium complex defended its title as the category 1 (101 units or greater) winner of the 2012 Siesta Key Condo Council Lighting Contest Dec. 18.

Siesta civic and business leaders Diane Erne, Helen Clifford, Catherine and Bob Luckner, Russell Matthes, Cheryl Gaddie, Mark Smith and Sarasota County Commissioner Nora Patterson rode in a trolley provided by Matthes to check out holiday lights at 18 condos.

Six judges evaluated displays based on uniqueness, seasonal theme, colorfulness and the “wow factor.”
Beachaven was the category 2 (51 to 100 units) winner, and Sandpiper Club won first place for category 3 (50 or fewer units).
