The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has filed additional charges against one of the two men arrested for vehicle burglaries on Siesta Key this summer after finding a tool commonly used to break car locks.
Deputies found an awl, a tool designed for leather stitching, after searching a car linked to Rene Jose Sanchez, who was charged with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Burglary of a Vehicle, and Grand Theft in September.
The Sheriff’s Office this month charged the 35-year-old Miami resident with another count of Fraudulent Use of Credit Card, which carries a $1,000 bond, after he was identified using the victim’s credit card in a Macy’s surveillance video.
