+ Siesta business delves into historical tours
Sun Ride Pedicab, a bicycle rickshaw company operated by Siesta Key Village Association member Glen Cappetta, recently expanded its scope of services ahead of the coming tourist season.

The company now offers historical tours of Siesta, which last for about an hour and cover the area from The Out-of-Door Academy down to Siesta Isles. Sun Ride rolled out a new logo in August touting the tours.
Sun Ride is currently looking for new drivers and training tour guides.

+ Daiquiri Deck upgrades patio projector to HD
Daiquiri Deck Raw Bar in Siesta Key Village recently installed a new high-definition projector for its patio area, just as football season hits its stride.

Daiquiri Deck Vice President of Marketing Russell Matthes, who is also the president of the Siesta Key Village Association, said the previous projector malfunctioned after overheating.

“It’s HD, but the quality is so good you would think it’s 3D,” Matthes said.

Contractors were modifying a canopy before the Oct. 2 SKVA meeting, to prevent another incident.

+ Blasé Café plans Becker charity event
Another Siesta Key Village business has stepped up to help the family of Salty Dog bartender Kurt Becker, who was left paralyzed from the waist down after he fell from a ladder July 10.

Blasé Café owner Rami Nehme plans to set up a dunk tank in front of his restaurant Oct. 21 for a six-hour charity event beginning at 2 p.m. It Takes a Village, the same title of an event Salty Dog held earlier this summer, will include a live band, a corn hole tournament, a $12 buffet and the chance to dunk Nehme in a tub of water.

The buffet will include a beef stew and jambalaya, and all proceeds from the event will go to Becker and his family, Nehme said.
