On Wednesday, Sept. 14, the College Board, a non-profit organization that administers voluntary tests in the U.S., announced the scores of the 2011 Scholastic Assessment Test.
According to a Sarasota County Schools press release, 1,651 senior high school students in Sarasota took the test.
On average, those students scored:
• 32 points higher than state averages in critical reading, 22 points higher than national averages;
• 30 points higher than state averages in mathematics, five points higher than national averages;
• 29 points higher than state averages in writing, 11 points higher than national averages.
Although 2011 Sarasota County scores were higher than state and national averages in all three categories, the scores were slightly lower than Sarasota County’s 2010 scores.
