+GWIZ to close permanently
At Tuesday's City Commission meeting, city staff reported the children's science museum would be turning its building over to the city, thus ending its operations.

+Paid parking approved for Palm Avenue garage
The City Commission narrowly approved the reinstitution of paid parking at the garage Tuesday in an attempt to offset the parking division’s budget deficit.

+Sarasota Police seek robbery suspect
Detectives are looking for a man who demanded cash from a 7-Eleven on North Washington Boulevard this morning.

+Masked man robs Sarasota McDonald's
A masked man robbed the McDonald's at 5554 Fruitville Road after 4 a.m. this morning.

+Brenner won't seek another term
With six months left in his second term, Vice Mayor David Brenner announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election for his seat.

+Commission approves 10% millage increase
Commissioners agreed to raise the property tax rate for the first time since 2010, when the commission raised the tax rate 25.8%, from 1.5 mills to 1.8872 mills.
